Thank God for Mothers
Happy Mothers Day, Mothers! I’ve already had a lot of females say well I’m not a mother yet. Every woman has mothering in them. God knew what he was doing when he made a woman a woman. Do you realize that women are made in the image of God too? Well, they are.
Eve’s being deceived and Adam following her made us a little lower, but we were initially higher than the angels. We’re going to be restored. You know there’s not a whole chapter devoted to being dads, but in Proverbs we have a whole one about being a woman. There are twenty-one verses right in the middle of the Bible about the importance of what we call the fairer half of the human race.
Mammas. I called my momma today. I hope you have or can. If you can’t, call up to heaven and say LORD tell momma I love her, and she’ll get the message. I called my momma today, bless her 90-year-old heart. She said her back was hurting a little. She had been mowing the yard yesterday. She’s momma. Good, bad, ugly, right, wrong, whatever. She’s momma. I tell you if you’ve got any lick of sense your momma ought to be real beautiful to you and it ought to come from here.
I believe that every woman here wants to be the best momma they can be. Every woman has mothering in them whether they have given birth physically or not and thank God for them. There are those that need mothered and men just don’t do it well. Women mother well. God made women a certain way and he made men a certain way and God intended it to be that way. That doesn’t mean that men can’t be compassionate, encouragers, and look for praise worthy stuff. But Mommas tend to be the biggest cheerleaders.
Proverbs 31. Some ladies are saying, “I can’t measure up to that, I can’t live up to that. Oh, I’m going to leave all depressed.” Now listen I can do all things through God who strengthens me.
Lemuel was Solomon’s pet name that Bathsheba had for him. King Solomon. Mommy called him Lemmy, Lemuel. My mother has a few names for me but some of them I can’t tell you what they are. But that speaks of that mothering relationship. I believe every women here wants to be the best woman they can be in the sight of GOD. What GOD says is good, gracious, and godly and what God will reward one day in judgment. What God said is the best thing and the right thing and the honoring thing. The place where you can put yourself and your family under an open heaven where the greatest blessing and power from the throne of GOD can rest in your home. That should be all our desire, men and women.
I want to be the best husband, father, and grandpa on top of being the best preacher, soul winner, and evangelist, whatever it is that I am. But we’re talking about women, mothers. Today’s Mothers’ Day, started by Mrs. Jarvis who was from Grafton in Taylor Town, WV.
I believe if you are a mother here today, you want the blessing and favor and usefulness of GOD as a wife, as a mother, as a grandmother, as a Christian woman.
We see what the HOLY SPIRIT inspired Solomon to record.
Proverbs 31:1 tells us that these are the sayings of King Lemuel, (which his mother taught him).
Proverbs 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. You know what rubies are? Rubies are priceless. Only the strongest king had rubies. They’re that rare and they’re that priceless. A virtuous wife is a woman who wants excellence to be a part of her character. She is priceless. That doesn't mean she's perfect, but her goal is “I want to improve.” That’s what excellence is. It's the process of improving. We all can improve. A virtuous wife is priceless. There’s not a man or woman in the house this morning that can’t improve.
Vs 11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. 12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
For a husband to have that confidence that my wife won’t contradict me or undermine me. Now look at what its saying in the context, where idealy the husband and wife are both saved. They need to pray a lot together about everything, about the children, about where they live, about life.
The scripture is crystal clear. Now, I didn’t write this. If you get mad, just get mad at GOD. I didn’t write I Peter 3:1 (Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives.) I didn't write Ephesians 5:22 (Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.)
I didn't write Colossians 3:18 (Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.) Women are exalted, encouraged, and admonished to submit under the leadership of their husbands.
There are times that Christy and I have intense moments of fellowship. That’s better than calling it fighting, isn’t it? We don’t always see eye to eye. But, I can thank the LORD when we have those times where our understanding is not alike, that she knows the scriptures. When I have the confidence with the LORD that this is godly and it doesn’t violate scripture, she yields to my decision and supports me in it. You know what that results in? My heart safely rests with her because I know she won’t undermine me. She won’t sabotage me. She won’t cut me. Every husband here wants and needs to know that’s the kind of trusting and loving wife he's got. You know what that will do? Everything will be sweeter. Everything will be better. The harmony, the spirit in the home.
Proverbs 31:23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
You know why? Because other men know this man's word means something and they know his wife isn’t sabotaging him. Wives you need to be your husband’s biggest cheerleader. Because your children are watching you and if all they hear is you criticizing and pointing out what’s wrong with your husband, you need not wonder why your children have an obedience problem.
God wants to bring revival to America and it has to start in the home.
God uses everyday people. Guess what I found out when preparing for this message? The best Christians in the Bible were women. And guess who the worst Christians were? The women.
Women had the greatest potential for the greatest good and the greatest potential for detriment. Satan went to Eve because she had a tender and soft heart that wanted to make things better and to sympathize. Satan plays on the strength that God placed in you as a woman and he tries to undermine that.
If it weren’t for women the church would have gone under a long time ago. God using Godly women. I believe with all my heart, there’s not a woman in here who doesn’t want to be a godly woman. It comes up to the realization that you thank God that you’re a woman.
You know what Orthodox Jews pray everyday? They thank God they weren’t born a Gentile, a slave, and they weren’t born a woman. You need to thank God you were born a woman. God didn’t make a mistake. The greatest power and potential lies in the hand of a godly woman who rocks that cradle and sows Jesus, god-likeness, righteousness, holiness and faithfulness into those children. What a privilege you have!
A godly woman feeds upon the right things. You know women are more creative than men. Why do you think it’s this way? They can do six things at once. She’ll send you to the store to get 6 things and you’ll only remember 3. You can’t get them all unless you write them down. She’s doing the cooking several dishes, putting things in the dishwasher, tending the children, and she does it all at once and staying up on all of it. Thank God for women. God knew what he was doing when he made a woman.
Ladies, I want to encourage you to feed upon the right things. Don’t let the world corrupt you because of your tenderness. Watch what you let through the ear gate and eye gate. Watch what you read and watch and listen to. Whatever you put in, that’s the area that will become stronger.
This Proverbs 31 woman… She strengthens her arms. What she does she has purpose to what she puts in her heart. That’s true for men but today is ladies day.
I’ve seen many women in this church just grow and blossom and come along. It’s exciting to see how God’s working in your life. Keep it up and may this holy virus infect others. This everyday Christian woman needs to determine in your heart that you will educate yourself and your children in a way that will most glorify the LORD because that’s why we’re put here. Don’t be satisfied where you are. The sky’s the limit of what God will do.
Yes, the husband’s the provider. But we can’t do it without you. Humanly speaking, I believe that the most important ingredient is you. You have been uniquely qualified to set the tone of the house. In a sense you are the holy spirit of the house. You can set the tone with encouraging uplifting god-honoring scriptural things and the way of looking at the world, or you can poison it that quick! What a great privilege and awesome responsibility that God has allowed you to enter in as being a woman.
He’s a greater man because of your godly life. What a privilege. What an honor. Strength and honor are her clothing. Your fruit is your godly behavior. Whatever seed you sow, you’ll have a harvest.
Real beauty comes from within. You want to be the most beautiful woman in your husband’s eyes. I know there are all kinds of ways today to lose weight, make up, dress up. But If you want to be the most beautiful woman in your husband’s eyes, then you be the submission, yielding, spirit filled, Christ exalting, good seed sowing woman that JESUS died on the cross for you to be.
God didn’t take a bone out of man’s foot to stomp on the woman. He took the rib for you to walk beside and love, encourage. To be a team that’s completed in JESUS CHRIST. What a privilege!
Don’t let anybody tell you that you are worthless. You’re not worthless. You are worth something. When the devil comes along and tells you that you’re too ugly, too old, too skinny, too fat, too dumb, uneducated, or what ever… just remember that the devil never told you the truth the first time. What makes a woman beautiful is what God says makes her beautiful. This outside stuff is objective. Ladies, if your husband thinks you’re hot, that’s all that matters. I hope that wasn’t too straightforward, but that’s the truth.
Real beauty comes out from the spirit. Let God be God in your life.
Think of Mary the mother of JESUS. There are three things about Mary.
Luke 1 tells us she had the purity of life.
Your goal is purity! Women say, “My husband is so jealous.” Don’t fan a flame of jealousy. If your husband has trust issues, you just pray for that flaw, but have purity of life. I want you to know in Christ you are as pure as you can be! I’ve heard it all in 31 years of preaching the gospel. I’ve got a God who’s more amazing than all your sins. If JESUS has washed your sins away, then don’t let the devil beat you up for something that doesn’t count anymore. Anybody who comes to Christ is made pure. Your sins are forgiven and forgotten if you’ve come to him.
Mary had constancy of lowliness. She didn’t have agendas. She didn’t have a point to prove, nothing to defend. She was meek, loving, tender, and God honoring. You remember the marriage feast and Mary called Jesus and says, “They’re running out of wine, son.” Every son knows what momma means when she needs something done. She means to do it! Jesus said it wasn’t his time, but she didn’t respond to him. She just looked at the servants and told them that whatever he says to do it. Constancy of lowliness. That doesn’t mean you can’t speak and ask questions. Just have a meek temperament. What God calls good we have to call good.
Then we see about Mary, that she had a ministry of love. What she did was based on love. Nothing else got into the way. The ministry of love. You read Luke 1: 46-56, you’ll see an awesome thing.
It’s Mother’s Day and we honor mothers. We exalt mothers and praise God for mothers. Honor your mother.
She’s say Lord, I’ll honor my husband. She’s not idle. Your children will rise up and call you blessed. Now my mom’s not perfect, and you didn’t have a perfect mother either, but in Christ she’s complete and she’s worthy of your love, encouragement you’re your adoration.
Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised…
Every mother of grown children here will tell you, if you’ve got little ones, you sow the seed here and what you sow here you’ll see when they grow up. You’ll see the positive and the victories and you’ll see the bad seed, too. God help us to exalt womanhood, motherhood and women for they are truly a gift.
Men, your wife is God’s gift to you. Your wife is God’s gift to you.
Let her take advantage of that, especially today. You say, “Preacher, everything you talked about I’ve utterly failed.” I’ll tell you what to do. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Let your husband’s heart trust safely in your care. You job is to be your husband’s biggest cheerleader. Train those children up in God’s way. The bottom line is that your husband is the one who’s going to have to answer for the decisions of the house unless you undermine him.
It’s important that you have a personal relationship with JESUS. Confess to the LORD. If the HOLY SPIRIT has spoken to you, confess it to the LORD.
